Bassein Fort (Vasai Fort) (1.5 hr train walk) — Atmospheric 16th-century Portuguese fort on Vasai Creek, largely intact and rarely visited by tourists. A rewarding half-day trip for history enthusiasts.

Leopold Cafe (1 min) — Legendary since 1871. Shantaram made it famous globally. Come for cold beer, club sandwiches, and the unmistakable Colaba buzz. The bullet scars from 2008 are preserved on the walls.
